When losing leads to finding. Also, no I am not obsessed (well, maybe just a little)

My pen ran out of ink! Mary Chapin Carpenter sings about wishing for pens that don't run out of ink (among other things). I get the sentiment. BUT, my pen running out of ink means - I didn't lose it!

I have long been a 'pen snob' and Sharpie has been my brand for several years. But last December (thanks to Santa Claus!) I upgraded from the black plastic Sharpie available in stores to this metal sharpie (the grip is actually gray, not sure why it looks green in this pic).

The amusing thing is that for a month I had been monitoring the ink level in this pen (yes, I laughed at myself as I did it, but I couldn't help it). About a week before this ending moment - I lost the pen! NOOO! I looked through the NorthStar van and all over my desk (digging underneat the piles of paper, etc). Even went down to the soccer field to see if it had fallen out of my pocket there the night before. I had lost two prior to that but, something about being so close to the goal made this loss particularly annoying. But, then I came home it was lying on the ground next to the van. Apparently I had dropped it there the night before. Hilarious!

Back in December, Santa brough me a pack of 12 of these very nice pens. I like them so much I was trying really hard not to lose them. On the day I lost the one above the count was - 8 still in the box, 2 long missing, 1 in use, and1 lost that day. Then I found one (not the almost empty one) buried in a back seat of a NorthStar van. Then, as mentioned, I found the one above. Meaning I have only lost one for the year and I have actually fully used one. I have two in use and 8 sitting securely in their box.

The good news is, having achieved the goal of not losing a pen before fully using it's ink (I don't recall that ever happening in previous years), it will now be a little less disconcerting if I lose the next one (a little).
